I was pretend bike shopping this morning online(I say pretend bike shopping, because I cant afford anything), and I stumbled upon my new bike obsession, the 2011 Trek Earl. The bike is as simple as the name, Earl. It is a bike. It has pedals, a chain, wheels, a frame, a seat, and brakes. That it, and thats all a bike needs. A funky top tube is all that really stands out on this bike, but it can be used to carry certain things, like a U-Lock.
This bike, along with a few others(e.g.: The Kona ‘Bike’), represents a new trend in bicycle design, a trend which I like. Simplicity. A Bike is a Bike because it is a simple means of transportation. You get from point A to point B with no environmental impact, while getting a little bit of exercise. This new trend is a wonderful movement to get the bicycle back to its roots. This is how I rebuilt MY bike to be:
Now if only society can get to the point where MORE people bike. Then it may be acceptable to show up to work sweaty.. UPDATE: the Earl has an integrated bottle opener!!! I want this bike now!!
